Undergraduate and Graduate Student Training

Undergraduate Practicum
The practicum is designed for undergraduate students of various majors including but not limited to psychology, sociology, social work and anthropology. A practicum at FIRST Project is suitable for self motivated students interested in clinical and counseling psychology, abnormal psychology, cross-cultural psychology, social work, immigrants and refugees, human rights, and torture survivors. Students have a wide variety of opportunities to be involved in client services, community training and education, and research. Students outline individual practicum goals and objectives to achieve during their practicum.

Graduate Practicum
The practicum is designed for students in clinical and counseling psychology programs at the masters or doctoral level who are interested in learning about work with multicultural populations ant specifically survivors of torture may see clients at the Wellness Center, P.C. While FIRST Project is a federally funded nonprofit organization, The Wellness Center is a private practice where therapists see clients in the office, in hospitals and nursing homes, and in home visits. The Wellness Center serves a diverse array of clients including multicultural populations that do not qualify for services at FIRST Project due to the nature of their presenting problems.

In addition to psychotherapy, students may be involved in community outreach and education including training and advocacy work.
