Our staff practices from a scientist - practitioner model and prior to participating in the center individual staff members have conducted research in the area of refugees and multicultural populations as well as other areas of treatment. Since the beginning of the F.I.R.S.T. Project a general database was developed. However, we have not yet set up a formal research program and thus due to the newness of the program no research has been completed. However, in October 2001 the F.I.R.S.T. Project, Inc. became a member of the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Centers and plans to participate in research both in a consortium capacity and within our own data gathering and analyzes. Our clinicians attend and participate in trainings offered by the consortium of torture treatment centers and other trainings. In April 2002 Dr. Prendes-Lintel coordinated and participated in case presentation for a program entitled: The Integration of Culture/beliefs in the Treatment of Torture Survivors for the Clinical Methods Training Institute provided by the National Consortium of Torture Treatment Centers held in Minnesota.
